Afonso II of Portugal

Afonso II of Portugal, known as Afonso the Leper, was born on April 23, 1185. He ascended to the throne as the third monarch of Portugal on March 27, 1211, following the reign of his father, Sancho I. Afonso's rule lasted until 1223, marking a significant period in the early history of the Portuguese monarchy.

As the second but eldest surviving son of Sancho I and Dulce of Aragon, Afonso II inherited a kingdom that was still in its formative years.
