Alain LaRoche

Alain LaRoche, born on September twentieth, nineteen sixty-three, is a retired Canadian freestyle skier renowned for his remarkable contributions to the sport. Competing from nineteen eighty-two to nineteen ninety, LaRoche showcased his talents in various disciplines, including aerials, moguls, ski ballet, and combined events.

His most notable achievement came at the inaugural Freestyle World Ski Championships in nineteen eighty-six, held in Tignes, France, where he clinched the gold medal in the combined event. Over the course of eight World Cup seasons, LaRoche secured twenty-one first-place finishes, a record that stood until it was surpassed by Mikael Kingsbury in two thousand fifteen.

LaRoche was part of a dynamic group of Quebec freestylers, affectionately known as the Quebec Air Force, alongside his brothers Yves and Philippe, as well as Lloyd Langlois, Jean-Marc Rozon, and Nicolas Fontaine. His family’s athletic prowess extended beyond freestyle skiing, with another brother, Dominique, also competing in the sport, and sister Lucie excelling as an alpine ski racer.

In recognition of his outstanding achievements, LaRoche was inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in nineteen eighty-seven and the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame in nineteen ninety-nine, solidifying his legacy in the world of skiing.
