Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Alamgir II

Mirza Aziz-ud-Din Muhammad, known by his regnal name Alamgir II, was born on June sixth, sixteen ninety-nine, and ascended to the Mughal throne in seventeen fifty-four. As the son of Jahandar Shah, he was raised to power by Imad-ul-Mulk after the deposition of Ahmad Shah Bahadur. At the time of his accession, Alamgir II was fifty-five years old, yet he lacked experience in both administration and warfare, having spent a significant portion of his life imprisoned.

During his brief reign from seventeen fifty-four to seventeen fifty-nine, Alamgir II attempted to emulate the policies of his predecessor, Aurangzeb Alamgir I. However, his rule was characterized by weakness, with real power concentrated in the hands of his vizier, Imad-ul-Mulk. The Mughal Empire was already in decline, and Alamgir II's inability to assert control only exacerbated the situation.

In seventeen fifty-six, the Mughal Empire faced further challenges as Ahmad Shah Durrani invaded India, capturing Delhi and plundering Mathura. Concurrently, the Marathas gained strength through their alliance with Imad-ul-Mulk, dominating northern India during this tumultuous period. The relationship between Alamgir II and his vizier deteriorated, leading to a tragic culmination.

Ultimately, Alamgir II's reign ended in betrayal, as he was murdered by Imad-ul-Mulk. His son, Ali Gauhar, managed to escape the turmoil in Delhi, while Shah Jahan III was placed on the throne, marking a significant shift in the Mughal dynasty.
