André Lange

André Lange, born on June 28, 1973, is a retired German bobsledder renowned for his exceptional achievements in the sport. He is celebrated as one of the most successful bob pilots in history, having competed in the Winter Olympics of 2002, 2006, and 2010, where he secured an impressive tally of four gold medals and one silver medal.

Lange's journey in sledding began with luge before he transitioned to bobsleigh in 1993. His Olympic debut in 2002 saw him triumph in the four-man event alongside teammates Carsten Embach, Enrico Kühn, and Kevin Kuske. He continued to dominate in 2006, winning gold in both the four-man event with Kevin Kuske, René Hoppe, and Martin Putze, and the two-man event with Kuske. His final Olympic appearance in 2010 resulted in gold in the two-man event and a silver in the four-man event.

Beyond the Olympics, Lange's prowess is evident in his fourteen medals at the FIBT World Championships, which include eight golds, four silvers, and two bronzes. His World Cup achievements are equally impressive, with three combined men's championships, one two-man championship, and four four-man championships to his name.

After retiring from competitive bobsleigh, Lange took on a leadership role as the head of the Thuringian Winter Sports Centre in Oberhof in April 2014. He oversaw various facilities, including the DKB Ski Arena and the Oberhof sledding track, until he announced his departure in May 2017. Shortly thereafter, he joined the South Korean luge team as a coach, contributing his expertise to prepare the team for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
