Andrew Upton

Andrew Upton, born on February 1, 1966, is a distinguished Australian playwright, screenwriter, producer, and director. His remarkable talent has led him to adapt the works of renowned playwrights such as Gorky, Chekhov, and Ibsen for prestigious venues including London's Royal National Theatre and the Sydney Theatre Company.

In 2007, Upton made waves with his original play, Riflemind, which premiered at the Sydney Theatre Company. The production received critical acclaim, featuring a stellar performance by Hugo Weaving and was later directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman in its London debut.

Alongside his wife, acclaimed actress Cate Blanchett, Upton co-founded the film production company Dirty Films. His role as a producer was pivotal in the creation of the Australian film Little Fish, released in 2005, showcasing his versatility in the film industry.

From 2008 to 2012, Upton and Blanchett served as joint artistic directors of the Sydney Theatre Company, further solidifying their influence in the Australian arts scene.
