Asclepigenia

Asclepigenia was a prominent Neoplatonist philosopher of the fifth century AD, known for her intellectual lineage as the daughter of Plutarch of Athens, the esteemed founder of the New Academy in Athens.

Alongside her brother Hierius, she immersed herself in the teachings of the great philosophers Plato and Aristotle, guided by their father's profound insights. This rich educational background laid the foundation for her own philosophical pursuits.

Her influence extended beyond her immediate circle; according to Marinus' Life of Proclus, the renowned philosopher Proclus, who would later ascend to the head of the Athenian academy, studied theurgy under her guidance. This highlights her significant role in the philosophical community of her time.

Asclepigenia's life came to a close in the year four hundred eighty-five A.D., but her contributions to Neoplatonism and her legacy as a scholar continue to resonate through the ages.
