Ashraf Pahlavi

Ashraf Pahlavi, born on October twenty-sixth, nineteen nineteen, was a prominent figure in Iranian history, known for her multifaceted roles as a translator, diplomat, politician, writer, and nurse. As the twin sister of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran, she was a significant member of the Pahlavi dynasty and played a crucial role in the political landscape of her time.

Often regarded as the 'power behind her brother,' Ashraf was instrumental in the pivotal events of nineteen fifty-three, when she supported the countercoup that led to the overthrow of Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh. This maneuver was aimed at reinforcing the monarchical authority of her brother, showcasing her influence in the royal court.

In addition to her political involvement, Ashraf Pahlavi was a passionate advocate for women's rights, serving as a palace adviser to the Shah. Her commitment to social issues and her efforts to empower women were notable aspects of her legacy.

After the Iranian Revolution in nineteen seventy-nine, Ashraf lived in exile across several cities, including France, New York, Paris, and Monte Carlo. Throughout her life in exile, she remained a vocal critic of the Iranian Islamic Republic, continuing to champion the causes she believed in.
