Bahram I

Bahram I, born in the year two hundred fifty, ascended to the throne as the fourth Sasanian King of Kings of Iran, ruling from two hundred seventy-one to two hundred seventy-four. He was the firstborn son of Shapur I, who reigned from two hundred forty to two hundred seventy, and took over the crown following the brief rule of his brother Hormizd I, who held power for just one year.

During his short reign, Bahram I is noted for his decisive actions against Manichaeism, a religious movement that had previously enjoyed a degree of tolerance under his predecessors. In the year two hundred seventy-four, influenced by the prominent Zoroastrian priest Kartir, he took the significant step of imprisoning and executing Mani, the founder of Manichaeism, marking a pivotal shift in the religious landscape of the Sasanian Empire.

Despite the historical significance of his actions, Bahram I's reign is often characterized as largely uneventful. His time on the throne was brief, and he was succeeded by his son, Bahram II, who would continue the legacy of the Sasanian dynasty.
