Elizabeth Copeland, widely recognized as Beth Phoenix, was born on November 24, 1980. An accomplished American professional wrestler, she gained fame during her impactful tenure in WWE, where she became a former WWE Divas Champion and a three-time WWE Women's Champion. Her journey began in high school, where she excelled in amateur wrestling, winning numerous tournaments before transitioning to professional wrestling.
After making her debut in May 2001, Phoenix showcased her talent across various independent promotions and was featured in the inaugural Shimmer Women Athletes shows. In 2004, she joined Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) and signed a developmental contract with WWE in October 2005. Her WWE debut on the Raw brand came in May 2006, but a serious injury shortly after led her to undergo multiple surgeries and return to OVW for further training.
Returning to the Raw brand in July 2007, Phoenix quickly established herself as a dominant force among the WWE Divas, earning the nickname 'The Glamazon.' She captured her first WWE Women's Championship at the No Mercy pay-per-view in October, holding it for six months. Her on-screen relationship with Santino Marella, known as 'Glamarella,' further elevated her profile, leading to her second Women's Championship win in August 2008. In January 2010, she made history by entering the men's Royal Rumble match, becoming only the second woman to do so.
After winning her third Women's Championship in April 2010 and the WWE Divas Championship in October 2011, Phoenix retired from WWE in October 2012, citing creative frustrations and a desire to focus on her family life with her husband, Adam Copeland, known as Edge, and their two daughters. In 2017, she was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, making her the youngest inductee at age thirty-six.
Beyond her wrestling career, Phoenix has been recognized for her philanthropic efforts, receiving the Frank Gotch Award in 2015 and becoming the first woman inducted into the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2019. She returned to the ring on a part-time basis from 2018 to 2023, participating in significant events such as WrestleMania 35 and the first-ever women's Royal Rumble match, solidifying her legacy in the sport.
