Curly Howard

Jerome Howard, widely recognized by his stage name Curly Howard, was born on October 22, 1903. He emerged as a prominent figure in American comedy, captivating audiences with his unique style and infectious energy. As a member of the iconic comedy team The Three Stooges, Curly shared the spotlight with his elder brothers Moe and Shemp Howard, along with the talented vaudevillian Larry Fine. His early performances were credited under the name 'Curley', but it was as Curly that he truly made his mark.

Curly Howard was celebrated for his high-pitched voice and distinctive vocal expressions, which included memorable catchphrases like 'nyuk-nyuk-nyuk!' and 'soiteny!' His physical comedy was equally remarkable, characterized by his improvisational skills and athleticism. Curly's ability to engage in slapstick humor, such as his signature circular 'walking' motion, endeared him to fans and solidified his status as the most popular Stooge.

Despite being an untrained actor, Curly's comedic talent shone brightly, drawing inspiration from other comedians and infusing his performances with a unique flair. His version of the 'woob woob' sound became a hallmark of his character, particularly evident in the Stooges' second Columbia film, Punch Drunks, released in nineteen thirty-four. However, his career faced a tragic turn when he suffered a stroke in May nineteen forty-six, which ultimately led to his departure from the group.

Following his exit from The Three Stooges, Curly Howard battled serious health issues, enduring several strokes until his untimely death on January 18, 1952, at the age of forty-eight. His legacy as a pioneering comedian continues to resonate, leaving an indelible mark on the world of entertainment.
