Dalida

Iolanda Cristina Gigliotti, known professionally as Dalida, was born on January 17, 1933, in Italy and later became a naturalized French citizen. She was a multifaceted talent, excelling as a singer, actress, model, and dancer. Dalida's remarkable career spanned several decades, during which she sold over one hundred forty million records globally, establishing herself as one of the most iconic figures in the music industry.

Dalida's journey in entertainment began with her film debut in 1955's 'A Glass and a Cigarette.' However, it was her signing with the Barclay record company that marked the turning point in her career. In 1956, she released 'Bambino,' which became a massive hit and propelled her to fame. Between 1957 and 1961, she emerged as the top-selling recording artist in France, captivating audiences with her enchanting voice and memorable songs such as 'Ciao amore, ciao' and 'Gigi l'amoroso.'

Despite her success, Dalida faced personal tragedies, including the heartbreaking suicide of her partner, Luigi Tenco, in 1967. This event deeply affected her, yet she continued to pursue her passion for music, forming the record label International Show with her brother Orlando. Throughout her career, she collaborated with renowned artists like Julio Iglesias and Charles Aznavour, further solidifying her status in the industry.

In addition to her musical achievements, Dalida made a notable return to cinema with the film 'The Sixth Day' in 1986, directed by Youssef Chahine. Although the film received critical acclaim in France, it did not achieve commercial success. Sadly, after years of battling depression, Dalida's life came to a tragic end on May 3, 1987, when she died by suicide from a drug overdose, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate with fans around the world.
