Chambers entered the political arena as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party, making his mark by being elected to the House of Commons of Canada during the federal election of nineteen fifty-eight, representing the riding of St. Lawrence—St. George. His political career was marked by several attempts at election, including unsuccessful bids in nineteen fifty-three, nineteen fifty-seven, and nineteen sixty-five, as well as a by-election in nineteen fifty-four. Despite these challenges, he served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministers of National Defence, George Pearkes and Douglas Harkness, from nineteen fifty-nine to nineteen sixty-one and again in nineteen sixty-two.

Beyond his political career, Egan Chambers was also known for his work as an insurance broker and sales manager. He was married to journalist Gretta Chambers, and he was the brother-in-law of the esteemed philosopher Charles Taylor.
