Emperor Go-Saga

Emperor Go-Saga, born on April first in the year twelve twenty, holds the distinction of being the eighty-eighth emperor of Japan, as recognized by the traditional order of succession. His reign, which lasted from the year twelve forty-two to twelve forty-six, marked a significant period in the thirteenth century.

This sovereign was named in honor of the ninth-century Emperor Saga. The prefix 'go-' (後) translates to 'later,' leading to his designation as the 'Later Emperor Saga.' This nomenclature reflects a historical lineage, connecting him to his predecessor while also distinguishing his reign.

In various historical texts, the term 'go' has been interpreted in different ways, sometimes denoting 'the second one.' Consequently, in some older references, Emperor Go-Saga may be referred to as 'Saga, the second' or 'Saga II,' highlighting the continuity and evolution of the imperial lineage.
