Eric II of Denmark, born in 1090, was a notable monarch who ruled the kingdom from 1134 until his untimely death in 1137. As the illegitimate son of Eric I, who reigned from 1095 to 1103, Eric II's ascent to the throne was marked by a fierce rebellion against his uncle, Niels, the then King of Denmark.
Declared king in 1134, Eric II quickly established his authority through a series of severe punishments for his adversaries, while generously rewarding those who supported him. His reign, though brief, was characterized by a tumultuous political landscape and a struggle for power within the kingdom.
Tragically, Eric II's rule came to a violent end when he was killed by a subject in 1137. His death paved the way for his nephew, Eric III of Denmark, to ascend the throne, marking a significant transition in the Danish monarchy.
