Genzebe Dibaba

Genzebe Dibaba, born on February eighth, nineteen ninety-one, is a distinguished Ethiopian middle- and long-distance runner. Renowned for her remarkable achievements, she clinched a silver medal in the 1,500 meters at the 2016 Rio Olympics and secured a gold medal in the same event, along with a bronze in the 5,000 meters at the 2015 World Championships. Dibaba holds the world records for the indoor events of the one mile, 3,000 meters, and 5,000 meters, showcasing her exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.

Her competitive journey spans all World Athletics Championships from two thousand nine to two thousand seventeen, where she consistently reached the finals in every event she entered. A five-time World Indoor champion, Genzebe triumphed in the 1,500 meters in two thousand twelve, the 3,000 meters in two thousand fourteen and two thousand sixteen, and achieved the impressive 1,500 meters/3,000 meters double in two thousand eighteen.

Genzebe's success began at a young age, as she excelled as a junior athlete. In two thousand eight, at just seventeen, she won her first World Cross Country Championships under-20 title and earned a silver medal in the 5,000 meters at the World U20 Championships. The following year, she added her second Cross Country U20 title, and in two thousand ten, she claimed gold in the 5,000 meters at the World U20 Championships.

In addition to her championship titles, Dibaba won the prestigious 2015 Diamond League title and was honored as the Laureus Sportswoman of the Year in two thousand fourteen. She was also recognized as the IAAF World Female Athlete of the Year in two thousand fifteen, solidifying her status as one of the elite athletes in her field. Coming from a family of accomplished athletes, including her sisters Tirunesh and Ejegayehu, and her cousin Derartu Tulu, Genzebe continues to inspire future generations of runners.
