Gertrude of Saxony

Gertrude of Saxony, born around 1030, was a remarkable figure in medieval politics, known for her influential roles as a countess and regent. She was married to Floris I, Count of Holland, which established her as the countess of Holland. Her political acumen was further demonstrated through her marriage to Robert I, Count of Flanders, making her the countess of Flanders as well.

During her life, Gertrude took on significant responsibilities, particularly as the regent of Holland from 1061 to 1067. This period was marked by her leadership during the minority of her son, Dirk V, showcasing her ability to govern effectively in challenging circumstances.
