James Francis Gunn Jr., born on August 5, 1966, is a prominent American filmmaker known for his diverse contributions to the film industry. He began his career in the mid-1990s as a screenwriter at Troma Entertainment, where he penned the cult classic Tromeo and Juliet in 1996. This early experience laid the groundwork for his future endeavors in both writing and directing.
Gunn transitioned to directing with the horror-comedy Slither in 2006, showcasing his unique storytelling style. He gained widespread recognition in the superhero genre with films such as Super in 2010, Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, and its sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017. In 2022, Gunn was appointed co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios by Warner Bros. Discovery, alongside his longtime collaborator Peter Safran. Gunn is credited with creating the series Creature Commandos, set to debut in 2024, and is also the writer-director of the highly anticipated film Superman, scheduled for release in 2025.
