Joel Douglas, born on January 23, 1947, is an accomplished American film producer known for his significant contributions to the film industry. As the second son of legendary actor Kirk Douglas and actress Diana Douglas, he was born just a day after his mother's 24th birthday, marking the beginning of a life intertwined with cinema.
With roots tracing back to Jewish immigrants from Gomel, Belarus, and a maternal lineage connected to Bermuda's legal and military history, Joel chose a different path from his father and older brother. Instead of pursuing acting, he dedicated himself to the behind-the-scenes aspects of filmmaking, producing a variety of films during the 1970s and 1980s.
Throughout his career, Joel has often collaborated with family members on various projects. Notable works include co-producing the adventure films 'The Jewel of the Nile' and 'Romancing the Stone,' as well as serving as an assistant director on the critically acclaimed 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.' In 2003, he took on the role of associate producer for 'It Runs in the Family,' a film that featured his father, Kirk, alongside his brother Michael and nephew Cameron.
In addition to his film production work, Joel also held an executive position at Blanc Communications Corporation, a media company founded by Mel Blanc and Noel Blanc. There, he was instrumental in developing and producing commercials, further showcasing his versatility and commitment to the industry.
