Jonathan Palmer, born on November seventh, nineteen fifty-six, is a distinguished British former racing driver, motorsport executive, and broadcaster. His journey in the world of motorsport began after he trained as a physician at London's Guy's Hospital, where he also served as a junior physician at Cuckfield and Brighton hospitals. However, his passion for racing led him to compete in Formula One from nineteen eighty-three to nineteen eighty-nine, driving for notable teams such as Tyrrell, Williams, RAM, and Zakspeed.
During his time in Formula One, Palmer participated in eighty-three races, earning a total of fourteen Championship points. Beyond the F1 circuit, he showcased his versatility by racing a Group C Porsche in sports car events from nineteen eighty-three to nineteen ninety. His remarkable achievements include winning the 1984 1000 km of Brands Hatch alongside co-driver Jan Lammers and securing second place at the prestigious 1985 24 Hours of Le Mans with co-drivers James Weaver and Richard Lloyd.
Palmer's contributions to motorsport extend beyond his driving career. He played a pivotal role in the development of the McLaren F1 road car, famously driving one to set a new speed record for production cars. Today, he serves as the majority shareholder and Chief Executive of MotorSport Vision (MSV), a company that operates six motorsport circuits across the UK, organizes the PalmerSport corporate driving event at Bedford Autodrome, and oversees several racing championships, including British Superbikes and GB3 and GB4.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Palmer is also a proud father. His son, Jolyon, followed in his footsteps and competed in Formula One from twenty-sixteen to twenty-seventeen, continuing the family legacy in the world of motorsport.
