King Huan of Zhou

King Huan of Zhou, known in Chinese as 周桓王 (Zhōu Huán Wáng), was a significant figure in the history of the Zhou dynasty, serving as its fourteenth king and the second ruler of the Eastern Zhou dynasty. Born Ji Lin (姬林), he ascended to the throne in seven hundred nineteen BC, following the legacy of his grandfather.

The reign of King Huan was marked by both challenges and conflicts. In seven hundred seven BC, he faced a significant setback when the Eastern Zhou forces were defeated in the Battle of Xuge by Duke Zhuang of Zheng. This defeat not only resulted in King Huan sustaining a serious shoulder injury from an arrow but also severely diminished the prestige of the Zhou royal court.

Despite the trials he faced, King Huan's legacy continued through his lineage. He was succeeded by his son, King Zhuang, in six hundred ninety-seven BC, ensuring the continuation of the Zhou dynasty's royal line.
