Mumtaz Mahal, born Arjumand Banu Begum on April twenty-seventh, fifteen ninety-three, was a prominent figure in the Mughal Empire, serving as the empress consort from sixteen twenty-eight until her untimely death in sixteen thirty-one. As the chief consort of Shah Jahan, the fifth Mughal emperor, she played a significant role in the royal court and was known for her poetic talents.
Born into a family of Persian nobility in Agra, Mumtaz was the daughter of the esteemed Abu'l-Hasan Asaf Khan and the niece of the influential Empress Nur Jahan. Her marriage to Prince Khurram, later known as Shah Jahan, took place when she was just nineteen years old, on either May tenth or June sixteenth of sixteen twelve.
