Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Ninoy Aquino

Benigno Simeón "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. was a prominent Filipino politician and journalist, born on November 27, 1932. He served as a senator from nineteen sixty-seven until nineteen seventy-two and was the governor of Tarlac from nineteen sixty-three to nineteen sixty-seven. His political journey was marked by his passionate opposition to the regime of Ferdinand Marcos, alongside notable figures like Gerry Roxas and Jovito R. Salonga, as they formed a coalition to challenge the former president.

During his early Senate career, Aquino took a strong stance on human rights, notably investigating the Jabidah massacre in March nineteen sixty-eight. However, his political activism led to his arrest shortly after martial law was declared in nineteen seventy-two, resulting in a seven-year imprisonment that earned him the title of Marcos' most famous political prisoner. Despite these challenges, he founded the Lakas ng Bayan party and participated in the nineteen seventy-eight parliamentary elections, although the party did not secure any victories.

In nineteen eighty, after suffering a heart attack, Aquino was allowed to travel to the United States for medical treatment. While in exile, he became a vocal critic of the Marcos regime, gaining significant support in the United States through various rallies. As conditions in the Philippines deteriorated, he made the courageous decision to return home to confront Marcos and advocate for the restoration of democracy, despite facing numerous threats to his life.

Tragically, Aquino was assassinated upon his return at the Manila International Airport on August twenty-one, nineteen eighty-three. His death sparked a renewed opposition to the Marcos regime and propelled his widow, Corazon Aquino, into the political spotlight, leading her to become the eleventh president of the Philippines in the nineteen eighty-six snap elections. In honor of his legacy, the Manila International Airport was renamed Ninoy Aquino International Airport, and the anniversary of his assassination is now commemorated as a national holiday.
