Paul Kenneth Bernardo, born on August 27, 1964, is a notorious Canadian serial rapist and serial killer, infamously known as the Scarborough Rapist and the Schoolgirl Killer. His criminal activities began in Scarborough, Ontario, where he committed a series of rapes from 1986 to 1990. Bernardo's heinous acts escalated when he partnered with his former fiancée and later wife, Karla Homolka, leading to the tragic murders of three young women between 1990 and 1992, including Karla's own sister, Tammy Homolka.
After a lengthy investigation, Bernardo was apprehended and subsequently convicted, receiving a life sentence in prison. He was designated a dangerous offender, which significantly reduces the likelihood of his release. Following his conviction, he confessed to an additional ten rapes that occurred prior to the officially recognized spree attributed to the Scarborough Rapist.
In a controversial plea bargain, Karla Homolka received a lighter sentence in exchange for her testimony against Bernardo, ultimately being released from prison in 2005. In contrast, Bernardo has faced denial of parole on three separate occasions, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the public's outrage surrounding his actions.
