Philip IV of Spain, born on April eighth, sixteen oh five, was a prominent monarch and politician whose reign spanned from sixteen twenty-one to sixteen forty. He is particularly noted for his patronage of the arts, fostering the talents of renowned artists such as Diego Velázquez. His commitment to culture left a lasting legacy, even as his political landscape grew increasingly complex.

During his rule, Philip IV presided over Spain amidst the tumult of the Thirty Years' War, a conflict that would shape the future of Europe. His reign saw the Spanish Empire reach an impressive area of approximately twelve point two million square kilometers, making it the largest empire in the world at that time. However, this vast empire was also experiencing a decline, a situation exacerbated by Philip's struggles with domestic and military reforms.

Upon his death, he was succeeded by his young son, Charles II, as King of Spain.
