Richard Leakey

Richard Leakey, born on December nineteenth, nineteen forty-four, was a prominent Kenyan paleoanthropologist, conservationist, and politician. His career was marked by significant contributions to archaeology and wildlife conservation in Kenya, where he held various official positions. Notably, he served as the director of the National Museum of Kenya and was instrumental in founding the non-governmental organization WildlifeDirect.

In addition to his conservation efforts, Leakey played a crucial role in the governance of Kenya. He held the influential position of cabinet secretary and head of public service during the latter part of President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi's administration, showcasing his commitment to public service and environmental issues.

Leakey's academic pursuits were equally impressive. He co-founded the Turkana Basin Institute in collaboration with Stony Brook University, where he also served as a professor of anthropology. His leadership as chair of the Turkana Basin Institute continued until his passing, reflecting his dedication to education and research in paleoanthropology.
