Robbie Williams, born on February 13, 1974, is an acclaimed English singer and songwriter who first gained prominence as a member of the pop group Take That from 1990 to 1995. He embarked on a successful solo career in 1996, releasing his debut studio album, Life thru a Lens, in 1997. This album featured his iconic single 'Angels', which became a defining hit of his career.
Following his debut, Williams released his second album, I've Been Expecting You, which included chart-topping singles 'Millennium' and 'She's the One'. Over the years, he has achieved remarkable success, with seven UK No. 1 singles and nearly all of his fourteen studio albums reaching the top of the UK charts. His albums have sold millions, with six among the top 100 biggest-selling albums in the UK, and he holds a Guinness World Record for selling 1.6 million tickets in a single day during his Close Encounters Tour.
Williams has been recognized with numerous accolades, including a record eighteen Brit Awards, four of which were for Best British Male Artist. He was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2004 as the Greatest Artist of the 1990s. His impressive sales figures include over twenty million albums and eleven million singles certified in the UK alone, and he is estimated to have sold between seventy-five million and eighty million records worldwide, solidifying his status as one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
In 2010, after a fifteen-year hiatus, Williams rejoined Take That to co-write and perform on their album Progress, which became the fastest-selling album of the century at that time. The subsequent tour broke records, selling over one million tickets in less than twenty-four hours. Although he left the band again in 2011 to focus on his solo career, he has maintained a collaborative relationship with Take That and has appeared with them on various occasions. A film about his life, titled Better Man, is set to be released in 2024.
