Sara Zimmerman Duterte-Carpio, widely known as Inday Sara, was born on May thirty-one, nineteen seventy-eight. She is a prominent Filipino lawyer and politician, currently serving as the fifteenth and youngest vice president of the Philippines. As the daughter of the sixteenth president, Rodrigo Duterte, she has made significant strides in her political career, becoming the third female vice president in the nation's history.
Duterte's political journey began when she was elected as Davao City's vice mayor in two thousand seven. She then served as the city's mayor from two thousand ten to two thousand thirteen, succeeding her father and making history as the youngest and first female mayor. After a brief hiatus, she returned to the mayoral office in two thousand sixteen, where she was re-elected in two thousand nineteen, implementing key programs such as Byaheng DO30 and Peace 911, and managing the city's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In two thousand twenty-two, Duterte ran for vice presidency under the Lakas–CMD party, partnering with Bongbong Marcos. Their alliance achieved a landslide victory, marking a significant moment in Philippine politics. She was inaugurated on June thirty, two thousand twenty-two, and concurrently held the position of secretary of education and vice chairperson of an anti-insurgency task force until her resignation in June nineteen, twenty-four.
However, her political journey has not been without challenges. By late August twenty-four, she expressed regret over her support for Marcos, and following her father's arrest in March twenty-five, her tenure was marked by international engagements to rally support for her family. On February five, twenty-five, she made history as the first sitting vice president to be impeached, facing allegations regarding her use of confidential funds and threats against political figures. Despite these challenges, she announced her candidacy for the presidency in the twenty-eight election on February eighteen, twenty-six.
