Silvana Mangano

Silvana Mangano, born on April twenty-first, nineteen thirty, was a prominent Italian film actress who emerged from the neorealist movement. She became a major female star and was celebrated as a sex symbol during the 1950s and 1960s. Her remarkable talent earned her three David di Donatello awards for Best Actress, recognizing her performances in The Verona Trial (1963), The Witches (1967), and The Scientific Cardplayer (1972), along with two Nastro d'Argento awards.

Raised in poverty during World War II, Mangano's journey began with training as a dancer and working as a model. Her beauty and charisma led her to win the Miss Rome beauty pageant in nineteen forty-six, which opened the door to her film career. She gained significant acclaim for her role in Bitter Rice (1949) and collaborated with renowned directors such as Pier Paolo Pasolini, Luchino Visconti, Alberto Lattuada, and Vittorio De Sica.

Mangano's career flourished well into her fifties, showcasing her versatility in supporting roles in films like David Lynch's Dune (1984) and Nikita Mikhalkov's Dark Eyes (1987). Beyond her professional achievements, she was married to international film producer Dino De Laurentiis, with whom she had four children, including Veronica and Raffaella De Laurentiis.
