Skandagupta

Skandagupta, born in the year five hundred, was a prominent Gupta Emperor who played a crucial role in restoring the power of the Gupta dynasty. His reign is marked by significant military achievements, particularly against formidable foes that threatened his empire.

One of his notable accomplishments was the successful repulsion of an invasion by the Indo-Hephthalites, commonly referred to as the Hunas in India. This invasion, likely led by the Kidarites, tested Skandagupta's leadership and military prowess, yet he emerged victorious, solidifying his control over the territories inherited from his predecessors.

Skandagupta is often regarded as the last of the great Gupta Emperors, a title that reflects both his achievements and the challenges he faced. Following his reign, the genealogy of the Gupta dynasty becomes less clear, but it is believed that he was succeeded by Purugupta, who may have been his younger half-brother.
