Sophia Dorothea of Hanover

Sophia Dorothea of Hanover, born on March sixteenth, sixteen eighty-seven, was an influential aristocrat who played a significant role in European history. She became Queen in Prussia and Electress of Brandenburg during her marriage to King Frederick William I, serving in these capacities from seventeen thirteen until seventeen forty. Her legacy is further cemented by her role as the mother of Frederick the Great, who would later become King Frederick II of Prussia.

At the time of her birth, Sophia's father, Ernest Augustus, was merely the son of a German prince, and it was not until seventeen oh one that the Act of Settlement positioned him in line to inherit the British throne through his mother. This pivotal moment in history would eventually lead to his ascension as King George I of Great Britain in seventeen fourteen, a time when Sophia was already a mother of many children and had established herself as a queen.
