Muntari's potential was quickly recognized, leading him to join Udinese, where he transitioned from the academy to the first team, making over one hundred fifty appearances and scoring nine goals.

In pursuit of greater challenges, Muntari made a move to Portsmouth in the English Premier League, where he played a pivotal role in the team's triumph in the FA Cup during the 2007–08 season. His impressive performances in England caught the attention of Inter Milan, and in 2008, he joined the prestigious Italian club. At Inter, Muntari contributed to the team's remarkable success, including winning the Champions League in the 2009–10 season and securing consecutive Serie A titles in 2008–09 and 2009–10.

On the international stage, Muntari has been a key figure for the Ghana national team since becoming a full international in 2002. He earned over eighty caps and represented his country in two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and three FIFA World Cups.
