Sviatoslav III of Kiev

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Sviatoslav III of Kiev

Sviatoslav III of Kiev, a prominent aristocrat, held various princely titles throughout his life, including Prince of Turov, Volhynia, Pinsk, Novgorod-Seversk, and Chernigov. His reign as Grand Prince of Kiev spanned several periods, notably from one thousand one hundred seventy-four, one thousand one hundred seventy-seven to one thousand one hundred eighty, and again from one thousand one hundred eighty-two to one thousand one hundred ninety-four.

Born as the son of Vsevolod II Olgovich, Sviatoslav's ascent to power was marked by his successful takeover of the Kievan throne from Yaroslav II. He ruled alongside Rurik Rostislavich, but their co-princedom was fraught with challenges and disagreements, reflecting the complexities of governance during that era.

Despite the tensions with Rurik, Sviatoslav's leadership was significant in the context of Kievan Rus' history. His reign was characterized by both political maneuvering and the struggles inherent in shared power. Unfortunately, his time on the throne was cut short when he fell ill, leading to his death on the twenty-seventh of July in one thousand one hundred ninety-four.
