Uhuru Kenyatta

Uhuru Kenyatta, born on October 26, 1961, is a prominent Kenyan politician who served as the fourth president of Kenya from 2013 to 2022. As the son of Jomo Kenyatta, the nation's first president, Uhuru's political journey has been significantly influenced by his family's legacy. He held the position of Deputy Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013 and was the leader of the official opposition from 2003 to 2007.

His political career began in earnest when he was elected as the member of parliament for Gatundu South in 2002. Although initially favored by Daniel Arap Moi as a successor, Kenyatta faced defeat in the 2002 elections against Mwai Kibaki. He later served as Deputy Prime Minister under Raila Odinga from 2008 to 2013, showcasing his ability to navigate the complexities of Kenyan politics.

In 2012, Kenyatta transitioned from the Kenya Africa National Union (KANU) to form The National Alliance (TNA), which played a crucial role in his successful presidential campaign in 2013. He was re-elected in the August 2017 general elections, securing fifty-four percent of the popular vote. However, this victory was contested in the Supreme Court, leading to a rerun in October 2017, which he won amidst a backdrop of political tension.

In October 2021, Kenyatta and several family members were implicated in the Pandora Papers leak, revealing their involvement in a network of offshore companies and assets valued at over thirty million dollars. This revelation sparked criticism, particularly in light of his administration's commitment to combating corruption and promoting financial transparency.
