Vladislav I of Wallachia, also known as Vlaicu or Vlaicu-Vodă, was a prominent figure in the history of Wallachia, serving as its Voivode from 1364 to 1377. Born in 1325, he was the son of Nicholas Alexander of Wallachia and Clara Dobokai, belonging to the influential Basarab dynasty.
In February 1369, Vladislav I demonstrated his military prowess by subduing Vidin. This strategic move led him to recognize Louis I of Hungary as his overlord, a decision that came with significant territorial gains, including Severin, Amlaș, Făgăraș, and a substantial sum of one hundred twenty thousand ducats.
Despite the challenges he faced, including the loss of Severin to Louis I in 1375, Vladislav I's tenacity shone through as he successfully reclaimed the territory in the years 1376 to 1377. His reign was marked by both conflict and resilience, solidifying his legacy in the annals of Wallachian history.
