He is best remembered for his unforgettable performances in classic films, including his role as Bill in the beloved Min and Bill alongside Marie Dressler in 1930. His versatility as an actor shone through in various iconic roles, such as General Director Preysing in Grand Hotel (1932) and the legendary pirate Long John Silver in Treasure Island (1934).

In 1934, Beery portrayed Pancho Villa in Viva Villa!, a performance that earned him the prestigious Volpi Cup for Best Actor.
