Wayne Babych

Wayne Babych, born on June sixth, nineteen fifty-eight, is a distinguished former professional ice hockey right winger from Canada. He made his mark in the National Hockey League (NHL) playing for several teams, including the St. Louis Blues, Pittsburgh Penguins, Quebec Nordiques, and Hartford Whalers. Notably, he is the older brother of Dave Babych, who also enjoyed a successful NHL career.

Babych's journey began in junior hockey, where he showcased his talent with the Edmonton Oil Kings and the Portland Winter Hawks in the Western Canada Hockey League. His exceptional skills led to him being drafted third overall by the St. Louis Blues in the nineteen seventy-eight NHL Amateur Draft, setting the stage for a remarkable professional career.

Throughout his seven full seasons in the NHL, Babych consistently demonstrated his scoring ability, netting twenty or more goals on four occasions. His most notable achievement came during the nineteen eighty-one season when he became the first player in Blues franchise history to score fifty goals in a single season. His impressive total of fifty-four goals remained a franchise record until Brett Hull surpassed it with seventy-two goals in the nineteen eighty-nine season.

In recognition of his contributions to the team, Wayne Babych was inducted into the St. Louis Blues Hall of Fame in January twenty twenty-five, alongside fellow hockey legends Jim Roberts and Curtis Joseph.
