14th Dalai Lama

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of 14th Dalai Lama

The 14th Dalai Lama, born on July sixth, nineteen thirty-five, in Taktser, Amdo, is the current spiritual leader and head of Tibetan Buddhism. Recognized as the tulku of the 13th Dalai Lama in nineteen thirty-seven, he was formally acknowledged as the 14th Dalai Lama in nineteen thirty-nine. His enthronement took place in Lhasa on February twenty-second, nineteen forty, marking the beginning of his spiritual and temporal leadership.

In the wake of the Battle of Chamdo and the annexation of Central Tibet by People's Republic of China forces, the Dalai Lama assumed temporal duties at the young age of fifteen in November nineteen fifty. However, following the Tibetan uprising in nineteen fifty-nine, he fled to India, where he established the Tibetan government in exile. Initially based in Mussoorie, the government relocated to Dharamshala in May nineteen sixty, where he continues to reside.

Throughout his life, the Dalai Lama has been a staunch advocate for the Tibetan people, promoting the Middle Way Approach to peacefully resolve the Tibetan issue with China. This approach seeks a balance that allows Tibetans to preserve their culture while addressing China's sovereignty claims. His efforts have garnered international recognition, including the Nobel Peace Prize in nineteen eighty-nine and the title of 'Universal Supreme Leader of the Buddhist World' from the Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace.

Even into his mid-eighties, the Dalai Lama has traveled extensively to share teachings on Tibetan Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism, engaging with global audiences on various topics, including interfaith dialogue and the intersection of science and spirituality. Since two thousand eighteen, he has limited his travels to India but continues to inspire through online teachings and discussions.
