He first gained prominence as part of the Southern hip-hop duo Playaz Circle, alongside Earl 'Dolla Boy' Conyers. The duo made waves in the music industry after signing with Ludacris' Disturbing tha Peace label, achieving notable success with their 2007 hit single 'Duffle Bag Boy,' featuring Lil Wayne.
In February 2012, Epps embarked on a solo career by signing with Def Jam Recordings, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group. His breakthrough came with a guest appearance on Kanye West's single 'Mercy,' which marked his debut on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number thirteen. His first studio album, 'Based on a T.R.U.
