Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of A. N. R. Robinson

Arthur Napoleon Raymond Robinson, affectionately known as A. N. R. or "Ray" Robinson, was a prominent figure in Trinidad and Tobago's political landscape. Born on December sixteenth, nineteen twenty-six, he made significant contributions to the nation as both a lawyer and a politician. Robinson served as the third President of Trinidad and Tobago from nineteen ninety-seven to two thousand three and held the office of Prime Minister from nineteen eighty-six to nineteen ninety-one.

Robinson's political journey was marked by resilience and courage. He famously resigned from Eric Williams’ administration in nineteen seventy during a State of Emergency triggered by the Black Power protests. His commitment to justice and international law is exemplified by his proposal that led to the establishment of the International Criminal Court, showcasing his forward-thinking approach to governance.

One of the most harrowing moments of his career occurred during the nineteen ninety coup attempt by Jamaat al Muslimeen, where he was taken hostage. Even under duress, he demonstrated remarkable leadership by ordering the army to “attack with full force” while being held at gunpoint, a testament to his unwavering dedication to his country.

Robinson was a trailblazer in many respects; he was the first active politician to be elected as President and the first presidential candidate to face opposition in the election process. His presidency was not without controversy, particularly when he declined to appoint certain senators recommended by Prime Minister Basdeo Panday after the two thousand elections, and when he appointed Patrick Manning as Prime Minister following a tied election in two thousand one.
