Abbas I of Egypt

Abbas I of Egypt, born on July first, eighteen sixteen, was a prominent politician and monarch who served as the Wāli of Egypt and Sudan. He was the son of Tusun Pasha, the younger son of the influential Muhammad Ali Pasha, and he succeeded his father as the de facto ruler of these territories.

His reign is often characterized by a departure from the progressive policies established by Muhammad Ali. The Chambers Biographical Dictionary describes him as bigoted and sensual, suggesting that his leadership style and personal inclinations significantly hindered the advancements made during his father's rule.
