Abby Kelley Foster

Abby Kelley Foster, born on January fifteenth, eighteen eleven, was a prominent American abolitionist and radical social reformer whose activism spanned from the 1830s to the 1870s. She was deeply involved in the fight against slavery and became a key figure in the American Anti-Slavery Society, where her roles as a fundraiser, lecturer, and committee organizer allowed her to work closely with notable figures such as William Lloyd Garrison.

In eighteen forty-five, Abby married fellow abolitionist and lecturer Stephen Symonds Foster. Together, they dedicated their lives to advocating for equal rights, not only for women but also for Africans who were enslaved in the Americas. Their partnership was marked by a shared commitment to social justice and reform.

Abby Kelley Foster's legacy is preserved in her former home, Liberty Farm, located in Worcester, Massachusetts, which has been designated a National Historic Landmark. This site stands as a testament to her enduring impact on the movements for abolition and women's rights.
