Abd al-Rahman ibn Muljam

Abd al-Rahman ibn Amr ibn Muljam al-Muradi, commonly referred to as Ibn Muljam, was a notable figure in the tumultuous landscape of the seventh century. As a Kharijite assassin, he is most infamously recognized for his role in the assassination of ‘Alī ibn Abi Talib, who served as the fourth Rashidun caliph and is revered as the first Shia Imam.

The act of assassination marked a significant turning point in Islamic history, as it not only led to the death of a prominent leader but also deepened the divisions within the Muslim community. Following the attack, Ibn Muljam was apprehended and faced justice in Kufa, where he was executed by Hasan ibn Ali, the eldest son of ‘Alī.
