Following the death of Ahmad, Abdallahi ibn Muhammad ascended to leadership of the movement, adopting the title of Khalifah al-Mahdi, commonly referred to as Khalifa. Despite his initial successes, Abdallahi's reign faced significant challenges. His attempts to consolidate power and create a stable governance structure were met with resistance, culminating in his eventual defeat. The British and Egyptian forces ultimately brought an end to his rule, leading to his death and marking a pivotal moment in Sudan's history.
