Abdelmajid Dolmy

Abdelmajid Dolmy, born on August 20, 1953, is a celebrated Moroccan footballer renowned for his exceptional skills as a libero and later as a central midfielder. His journey began in the streets of Derb Sultan, where he honed his talent before joining the Raja-Oasis Complex at the age of sixteen. By 1971, he had made his way to the first team, quickly establishing himself as a pivotal player by 1973.

Throughout his illustrious career with Raja CA, Dolmy achieved significant success, winning the Throne Cup three times in 1974, 1977, and 1982. His prowess on the field earned him a record transfer to Olympique de Casablanca in 1987, marking a high point in Moroccan football history. After returning to Raja in 1990, he gracefully retired from professional play in 1991 at the age of thirty-eight.

Dolmy's international career with the Moroccan national team, known as the Atlas Lions, began with the U20 squad in 1971. He made his senior debut in 1975 and played a crucial role in Morocco's historic run in the 1986 World Cup, where they became the first African team to top a World Cup group and reach the knockout stages. His contributions to the team were recognized when he was rated nine out of ten by L'Équipe in a match against England.

In addition to his on-field achievements, Dolmy was honored with the UNESCO Fair Play Prize in 1992 for his exemplary sportsmanship. His legacy continues to be celebrated, as he was named one of the best two hundred African football players of the last fifty years by the Confederation of African Football in 2006 and was included in the IFFHS all-time Morocco Dream Team in 2022.
