Abdelrahman Fawzy, born on November eleventh, nineteen oh nine, was a prominent Egyptian football player and coach, renowned for his role as a centre forward. His career was largely defined by his time at Zamalek SC, where he became a key figure in the club's history, as well as his contributions to Al-Masry SC and the Egypt national football team.
Fawzy's most notable achievement came during the 1934 FIFA World Cup, where he made history by becoming the first African footballer to score in the tournament. In a match against Hungary, he netted two goals, contributing to Egypt's four to two loss. This match marked a significant milestone, as it was the first time an African team competed in the World Cup.
In a remarkable moment, Fawzy almost became the first African to score a hat trick in World Cup history; however, his third goal was disallowed for offside. The Egyptian goalkeeper, Mustafa Mansour, recounted the moment, highlighting Fawzy's skill as he dribbled past multiple Hungarian players before the goal was controversially ruled out.
Throughout his career, Fawzy's legacy as a trailblazer for African football remains significant, inspiring future generations of players and coaches alike.
