With an impressive tally of national records across various disciplines, he stands as Somalia's most decorated athlete, holding the national record in nine athletic events.

In 1987, Bile made history by becoming the first Somali to win a world championship title in the 1500 meters. His remarkable performance included a blistering final 800 meters completed in one minute and forty-six seconds, a feat that remains unmatched as the fastest latter half in the history of the 1500 meters track race as of the 2020s.

During the same championship, he set a championship record in the semi-finals with a time of three minutes and thirty-five point sixty-seven seconds, a record that stood until 1991. Bile's prowess continued to shine as he triumphed over Britain's Sebastian Coe to secure gold at the 1989 World Continental Cup, further solidifying his legacy in the sport.

His athletic journey also included a silver medal at the 1985 African Championships in Cairo and representation of Somalia at the 1996 Summer Olympics in the 1500 meters. Bile's family has continued the legacy of athletics, with his brother Jama Bile competing for Northern Arizona University and his son Ahmed Bile running for Georgetown University.
