Abdourahamane Tchiani

Abdourahamane Tchiani, born in 1961, is a prominent Nigerien military officer who has made significant strides in the political landscape of Niger. He has been serving as the eleventh president of Niger since 2025, following his pivotal role in the military junta known as the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, which he has led since 2023.

Before ascending to the presidency, Tchiani held the esteemed position of Chief of the Nigerien Presidential Guard from 2011 to 2023. His tenure in this role was marked by a commitment to national security and the protection of the country's leadership.

In 2023, Tchiani played a crucial role in the coup d'état that led to the detention of President Mohamed Bazoum. This significant event triggered a national crisis in Niger, which unfolded throughout 2024, reshaping the country's political dynamics.
