Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi, born on September first, nineteen forty-five, is a prominent Yemeni politician and former military officer. He served as the second president of Yemen from two thousand twelve until his resignation in two thousand twenty-two. Prior to his presidency, Hadi held the position of second vice president under President Ali Abdullah Saleh from nineteen ninety-four to two thousand twelve, showcasing a long-standing commitment to Yemen's political landscape.
Hadi's military background is notable, having achieved the rank of field marshal in the Yemeni Armed Forces. His political journey took a significant turn during the Yemeni uprising in two thousand eleven when he briefly assumed the role of Acting President while Saleh was receiving medical treatment in Saudi Arabia. Following Saleh's transition to a non-active role, Hadi was expected to lead the formation of a national unity government and call for early elections.
On February twenty-first, two thousand twelve, Hadi was elected as president for a two-year transitional period, although his election was marred by a boycott from the Houthis and Southern Secessionists. His mandate was extended in January two thousand fourteen, but he faced increasing challenges, including a forced resignation on January twenty-second, two thousand fifteen, amid protests and dissatisfaction with his governance.
After escaping house arrest in Aden, Hadi denounced the Houthi takeover and sought refuge in Riyadh, where he remained under house arrest until his return to Aden in September two thousand fifteen. In two thousand twenty-two, he stepped down and transferred authority to the Presidential Leadership Council, marking a significant shift in Yemen's ongoing civil conflict and reflecting a broader push for peace in the region.
