Abdullah of Pahang

Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, born on July 30, 1959, is the sixth Sultan of Pahang, having ascended to the throne in January 2019. His reign as the King of Malaysia spanned from 2019 to 2024, marking a significant period in the nation's history.

Born during the reign of his grandfather, Sultan Abu Bakar, Abdullah became the heir apparent when his father, Sultan Ahmad Shah, took the throne in 1974. He was officially designated as the Crown Prince of Pahang on July 1, 1975. His educational journey included prestigious institutions such as the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and further studies in International Relations and Diplomacy at Worcester College, Oxford, and Queen Elizabeth College from 1980 to 1981.

In 1986, Abdullah married Tunku Azizah Aminah, and together they have ten children, including notable figures such as Hassanal Ibrahim, Muhammad Iskandar, and Puteri Iman Afzan, as well as an adopted son, Amir Nasser. His ascension to the throne followed his father's abdication in January 2019, shortly before his father's passing in May of the same year.

During his reign, Abdullah played a pivotal role in Malaysian politics, particularly amid the political crisis from 2020 to 2022. His leadership was crucial during the complex negotiations following the 2022 general election, which resulted in a hung parliament, making his tenure notable for witnessing the most prime ministers in Malaysian history.
