Abdulrab Rasul Sayyaf

Abdulrab Rasul Sayyaf, born in nineteen forty-six, is a prominent Afghan politician and former military commander known for his significant role in the Afghan mujahideen movement during the Soviet-Afghan War. Leading the Ittehad-al-Islami faction, he was instrumental in the fight against the Marxist-Leninist People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan government in the 1980s.

Sayyaf's influence extended beyond Afghanistan, as he maintained close ties with international mujahideen from the Arab world, particularly during the Soviet-Afghan War. His relationships with Saudi Arabia were pivotal, as he played a crucial role in mobilizing Arab jihadist volunteers to support the mujahideen forces.

In the 1990s, Sayyaf allied with the Rabbani government, but as the Taliban militia rose to power, he joined the Northern Alliance in opposition. This decision was notable given his previous connections with Saudi Arabia, which supported the Taliban. Following the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in two thousand five, Sayyaf's Islamic Union transformed into a political party, and he was elected to the Afghan Parliament, where he continued to wield political influence.

After the Taliban's capture of Kabul in twenty twenty-one, Abdulrab Rasul Sayyaf sought refuge in New Delhi, India, marking a significant chapter in his long and complex political career.
